What causes anxiety?
What causes anxiety? Seems like if we knew what anxiety is, we might be able to answer the question. We all think we know that anxiety is any of the following: worry, being nervous, stressing out, freaking out, unhinged, and so on and so forth. Anxiety, in severe form is one of several diagnoseable and treatable mental health conditions formally noted by medical professionals, including psychotherapists, and psychiatrists.
According to the Mayo Clinic, Experiencing occasional anxiety is a normal part of life. However, people with anxiety disorders frequently have intense, excessive and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations. Often, anxiety disorders involve repeated episodes of sudden feelings of intense anxiety and fear or terror that reach a peak within minutes (panic attacks). We know today that anxiety and depression can go hand-in-hand, and often it is uncertain which is the primary diagnosis, and we believe that is not nearly as important as applying a treatment that will deal with both issues. Anxiety is, like other disorders and conditions, viewed from a multi-focal lens. That is, after ruling out any possible medical cause, there are a variety of therapies that may be applied to help ease the individual's discomfort. The important thing to remember is that help is most definitely available.
